5 am in the morning and the Riedels are up
and running!????? Yes, we are Hinchinbrook-bound! Hinchinbrook is an island
just a few kilometres offshore and the best thing about it: There is nothing!
No harbour, no roads, no hotels, no restaurants. Only nature. We board the
little motor boat at sun rise and the skipper crosses over. His dog seems to be
enjoying the ride as much as we do and he holds his nose into the fresh wind.
The landscape is a beauty and we are touched by the calm pureness of the ocean
in the early morning. On the other side of the bay the boat glides smoothly
through the mystic mangroves until we stop and leave the boat, which turns back
to the mainland. Before us: Beautiful, untouched wilderness.
We start trekking,
cross ice-cold creeks, climb up and down the hills
and balance on half-drowned tree trunks in muddy water. It’s an experience
touching all our senses. At some point I leave my bag on the ground, quickly run back the little patth leading to that beautiful place, a sneak sunbathing on the path disappears into the bushes when I run by, and then I am there: All alone at this magic waterfall. I am gettig rid of my clothes and jump into the purest water, swimming with the fishes in the most beautiful landscape. So unreal. While feeling so alive.
And then it is time to go back and catch up with my mates. After several hours a natural gate appears leading us
from the magic rain forest to the open, wide beach. Kilometre after kilometre
only sand and water and the foot prints of the three of us. It’s like meditation.
In the boat back to mainland we are calm, silently reviewing what
we have seen today.
I feel very, very blessed.
I feel very, very blessed.
